External factors that significantly influence battery performance include:
- Operating temperature, especially in cold environments
- Cellular network strength and transmission retries
- GNSS time to first fix and satellite visibility
- Battery aging and chemistry variation
- Firmware versions and configuration changes
- Mounting conditions and environmental interference
Low temperatures can significantly reduce usable battery capacity. Poor cellular coverage can increase transmission time and energy usage. Frequent GNSS reacquisition may reduce battery life compared to controlled test conditions.
